Outlook splits your inbox into Focused and Other. Important messages might end up in the “Other” tab.
On Web:
Go to Outlook Web.
Click the Settings gear icon (top right).
Scroll and click Mail > Layout > Focused Inbox.
Choose:
Don’t sort my messages – to turn off Focused Inbox entirely.
Or leave it on and manage it with steps below.
If you want specific emails to always go to “Focused”:
On Web or Desktop:
Find the email in your “Other” tab.
Right-click on the message.
Click Move > Always Move to Focused Inbox.
On Outlook Desktop:
Click File > Manage Rules & Alerts.
Click New Rule.
Start from a template like:
“Move messages from someone to a folder.”Choose:
The sender or subject you care about.
Inbox (not a subfolder).
Click Finish, then Apply.
On Outlook Web:
Click the Settings gear > View all Outlook settings.
Go to Mail > Rules.
Click + Add new rule.
Name your rule.
Set:
Condition: From [email address]
Action: Move to Inbox
Click Save.
If emails are going to Junk, do this:
Go to the Junk Email folder.
Right-click the message.
Choose Mark as Not Junk.
Then click Always trust email from this sender.
Adding a sender to your contacts tells Outlook their emails are important.
Open the email.
Right-click the sender’s name.
Click Add to Outlook Contacts.
